The building began operating early on 2009 as part of the airport's new environmental approach towards the recycling and treatment of solid & liquid waste. The waste treatment center is designed as a literal translation of it's program – a bridge leads the waste truck to the upper floor where the plan dimensions allow it to turn around and pour the it's contents, via a hole in the floor, into containers that crush the waste on the lower floor.
After the waste is reduced to minimal dimensions it is ready for removal to dump sites.
